My First Safe AI Conversation
Revised July 11, 2026 · DigitalConfidenceForSeniors.com
The script, the seatbelt, and a place to write what happened. Five minutes, one conversation — and “I’ve never used AI” stops being true.

One privacy rule, before anything
Never give an AI tool: your Social Security number · Medicare number · bank or credit card numbers · passwords or security codes · full medical records with your name on them.
Ask in general terms. Leave the numbers out. That’s the whole rule — and it makes everything below safe.
Use an official front door
ChatGPT (chatgpt.com) · Claude (claude.com) · Gemini (gemini.google.com) · Copilot (copilot.microsoft.com) — or their official apps from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Full list and fake-download warnings here.
Then find the microphone button near where you would type. Tap it and simply talk. No typing required.
Say these three things, in order
1. “I am new to AI. Explain three safe ways someone like me could use you this week.”
2. “What should I not use you for?”
3. “Give me one simple practice exercise.”
Take your time between questions. Reading or listening to the answers is the exercise.
What happened? (write it down — future you will enjoy this page)
Which tool did I use?
What did I ask, beyond the script?
What surprised me?
What felt useful?
What felt strange or off?
What will I try next?
“Nothing you type in the boxes above leaves this page — it isn’t sent or stored anywhere. Print it, write on paper, and keep it. It’s page one of your own record of learning this.” — Gay
